How to Install a Traverse Curtain Rod
For those of you that don't know a traverse curtain rod uses a simple pulley system to open and close your curtains. Here are some instructions to make installing your own traverse rods a breeze. What You'll Need.Curtain Rod, Brackets & Screws (complete kit).Ladder or Step Stool.Pencil.Power Drill.Screw Driver.Measuring Tape.Hollow Wall Anchors (if needed).Instructions.First off, you'll need to measure your window so you can see where to install the brackets. You must measure an additional 2 inches on both sides of the window frame to allow for the curtains to be stacked when pulled open. The curtain rod should sit about 4 inches above the top of the window.Place your brackets against the wall at intervals of about 40 inches wide.Mark the wall with your pencil where you will need to drill holes for the screws to go in.Do this for all your wall brackets.Using your drill, make small holes for the screws to fit into.Make sure you don't drill them too wide so the screws can't thread in the wall properly. If you aren't drilling into studs then you will have to use hollow wall anchors to make sure your curtain rod is secure.Attach the brackets to the wall by screwing them in place with a screwdriver. You're now ready to install the curtain rod.Just push the rod into the brackets until it clicks into place.Once you have positioned the rod correctly, secure it into place by fastening the cam bolts.Attach the curtain pulley to the wall directly under the cord opening. You can now use the cord to open and close the carriers.Pull the curtain cord until you get the desired length then tie it into a knot to fasten and trim the excess cord.

Kwikstage System Scaffold: An Overview
System scaffolding in Australia is one of the primary requirements of any building constructor while carrying out any kind of building or repair job.One of the most popular systems of creating a staging structure is Kwikstage or Quickwedge system, which is a modular scaffolding system in which wedges cater to all requirements of securing all access scaffolds, thereby eliminating all loose ends. The wedge-based fixing of the ledgers and transoms offers an uncomplicated and efficient way of providing access to scaffoldings in the Kwikstage System. It has an inflexible and well-defined four way fixing that renders fastened location without any kind of unwanted movement in the system. This structure furnishes a guaranteed vertical alignment through a highly effective spigot and wedge based fitting. Some of the components of Kwikstage scaffolding of Perth are as follows..• Quickwedge Standards / Vertical. It is made from high grade standard scaffolding tubes and finds its application in creating the support or uprights used in the structure. This product forms a location for ledgers and transoms and consists of a series of V-pressed welded components. It can be availed along with an integral wedge spigot or as an open ended variant.• Quickwedge Ledger/Horizontal.The scaffolding tubes with wedge fixing devices are used to manufacture this component, which is placed in the uprights or standards longitudinally. They can be used inside as well as outside of the scaffolding in WA - at platform level inside and as guardrail outside.• Quickwedge Transom.Used to form a frame as well as to fix the inner & outer standards transversely while being used in conjunction with V-pressed verticals, these transoms are T-sections that possess wedge-fixing components at the ends.• Quickwedge Return Transom. It is a product that is made from steel-pressed components with the purpose of being placed alongside a ledger to form a 90O angle of return in the scaffold, and possesses specialized spaces on one side for steelstage or timber battens.• Ladder Access Transom. It is a simple part that is used to create an easy mode to access the platform through ladders. This component links the coupler to one ledger while the 'C' is placed on the opposite ledger and the batten boards are secured alongside the transom.• Scaffolding Bracing. It is used to form a facade bracing by securing its pivoting captive wedge fittings, which are welded at each end to the V-pressing of the verticals/standards.• Stage Bracket 1/2/3 Board.• Tie Bar.It is a long, angled iron bar that is equipped with a dowl at both ends to link stage-brackets with each other.• Toe Board Bracket. It is clamped to the verticals located at the end of the staging system to fasten the timber or steelstage end toe board.• End Toe Board Bracket. The components of this system for scaffolding in Perth are painted for resistance to corrosion and quality checked for low or nil maintenance cost.

Flush Style Ceiling Fans - Eight Installation Steps For Replacing Ceiling Light Fixtures
The flush-style ceiling fan is mounted snugly next to a flat horizontal fairly low ceiling where it is out of the way, and from where it delivers a comforting room breeze. It comes in several diameters, from about 28 to 60-inches, depending on the room size being fitted, and can cost typically from $30 to $300.It generally has three fan motor speeds, which are reversible.Except for the tools and possible other parts required for installing them, their self-assemble kits come with everything else.In many cases, the fan, which will have its own lighting, will replace a ceiling light fixture.Safety.The electricity must be off at the site where the fan is to be installed. If the fan is replacing a light fixture, shut down its fuse or circuit breaker in addition to flipping its wall switch to the off position.Stand on a sturdy wide-berth step stool or ladder during the installation; do not lean or get into a twisted position while there. Also, wear protective eye glasses or goggles.Furthermore, if additional auxiliary household wiring is needed, get professional advice or help first.Tools needed.Instructions (electrical).Eye glasses or goggles.Step-stool/ladder.Phillips screwdrivers.Pliers.Electrical tape.Knife or sissors.AC tester light.Wire cutter/stripper.Tape measure (optional).Electric drill and extra screws for securing the junction box, if necessary.Installation steps (after reading the fan installation instructions thoroughly).1.Remove the light fixture from the ceiling. With the electricity off, slowly remove the shade, bulbs, and fixture screws from the electrical junction box in the ceiling.Let the skeleton fixture hang there. With the light tester, make sure the wire connections to this fixture are cold (the test light will stay off).Cut the wires, leaving 3-5" of tail for connecting them to the ceiling fan motor assembly. If the home is old, only two wires might exist, a black one and a white one.Tip. also check the firmness of the electrical box in the ceiling. If it is not solidly attached to the ceiling, add two extra screws to its top side, which might require drilling two holes in the box for them. The ceiling fan is heavier than the light fixture. It also wobbles slightly during operation.2.Install the mounting bracket. After stripping the ends ( to ") of the tailing wires in the junction box cleanly, install the mounting bracket to the box with the two 5/32" screw-bolts provided.Let the tailing wires hang outside of the bracket.3.Hang the motor assembly from the bracket.Insert the topside motor-hanger into the centralized holder of the bracket.Insert the plastic lock clip that holds it into place.Note. the hanging motor assembly is supposed to swivel slightly.4.Connect the wiring.Generally, the motor assembly has two so-called hot wires, a black one for the motor and a blue or off-color one for the lights to be attached below it.Overlap the stripped ends of these two wires (motor and lights) together with the stripped end of the black ceiling wire in the box, and twist connect them together with the wire nut provided.Connect the white assembly wire to the white ceiling wire the same way. Then, to keep these connections from loosening while the fan is working, tape the wide lower ends of these nuts to their wires with electrical tape. Also, attach the green fan wire (ground wire from the bracket frame) to the electrical box if the box is also grounded with a third bare or green wire.Otherwise, if the electrical box in not grounded, ask a professional about this green wire connection. Some will say to leave it be, i.E., do nothing with it.Others could suggest further wiring?5.Install the flush-mount motor shroud.Install the motor shroud to the far ends of the mounting bracket with the small screws provided. It covers/hides the sides of the motor and the wiring and ceiling box.6.Assemble the fan blades (4 to 6) and mount them. After choosing the top or bottom reversible blade color scheme preferred, attach the blades to their end brackets with the screws and washers provided. Then mount the blades to the bottom side of fan motor with the bolts, lock washers, and dampening gaskets provided.Note. these latter pieces sometimes are partially pre-installed to the motor to keep them separate from the rest of the kit hardware.Tip. to keep the motor from becoming too off-level during this step, install the blades one at a time opposite to each other to start with.7.Install the lighting assembly.Attach the fan's lighting assembly to the small round central housing unit just below the fan blades via the quick-wire-connectors and small screws provided.Install the glass shades, bulbs, and pull-chain extenders in the order instructed.Note. a housing cap is provided if the lighting assembly is not wanted for any reason.8.Test the fan and lights. After turning the electricity back on, flip the wall switch to on.Set the pull-chain switches as desired.Often, the fan lighting is set to come on with the wall switch, while the fan itself is controlled by the pull-chain switch only, initially set in the off position.Note. The ceiling fan has a reversible motor switch that allows the draft either to go upward or downward as preferred. For more information on ceiling fan installation, see the following sites.

How to Install a Stair Lift
Ladder elevators can be a nice addition to the home to enhance accessibility. If the home has relatives or friends who are not able to move about the stairs easily, stair lifts are a good choice for this purpose. These days, it is extremely easy to install stair lifts and here are a few tips to get started. Many Advantages These days, installing stair lifts in the home is an easy task and with it comes the pride and assurance that the home is accessible for everyone.Even persons with lesser degree of mobility will be able to navigate the home at their leisure and comfort levels.Easy Installation Once the most appropriate stair lift has been chosen and, which fits the width of the stairs, installation is needed. Many people get intimidated by the installation process but the fact is that it is very easy. The only tools you need are a hammer, screwdriver, level and the kit.It is very important to consult with the owner's manual in the kit before starting the installation but in general the basic installation steps are quite generic.Three Carriers The stair lifts typically come with three carriers namely one going on the top of stairs, one at the bottom and one at the middle.Cable Typically, the stair lifts come along with cables, which allow the lift to come back to the ladder bottom once it reaches the top of the stair. This is a special kind of power cord, right through the ring, placed against the wall and runs from the top to the bottom of the stair lift.Installing And Seat Path The next stage is the actual installation as well as placing the seat path to the track. The seat needs to be attached in between two tracks, which were available with the kit.The top of this seat should be attached to the top of the track and proper screws should be fastened to hold the seat in place. Then, the track combination should be set appropriately to connect brackets, which attach to the steps of the stairway. The track needs to be in level so the seat is not in a blocked position.Once the ladder path is set, the elevator screw of the ladder is placed into the track with the appropriate screws.Pulley The ladder stair lift comes equipped with a pulley, which helps move the chair down and up across the stairway. The chain should be installed at the middle of the runway right at the center. You need to slide the pulley in forward as well as backward directions with ease.Cord The cord is critical to successful installation of the stair lift because it powers the elevator. This power cord has to be fed through a specific slot inside the track, which is specifically designed for this cable.Once the cord is fed through, the power cord needs to be connected to the ramp bottom and then to the outlet.

How To Measure, Install and Maintain Venetian Window Blinds
Venetian Blinds - How to measure.Introduction.There are a number of things you need to consider when measuring for new blinds.Below is a quick guide to help you.Firstly make sure you have a pencil and some paper and a tape measure (preferably a metal one). What to measure in.Always measure in millimetres (mm) as most blind suppliers require a size in millimetres.Where to measure. In normal window areas there are 2 potential places for your blinds to be installed, these are known as the window face, or the window recess. All Venetian Blinds can be fitted to the face of your window frame or wall, or into the top of the window recess. This gives you complete control over the positioning of your blind. For a recess measurement..Make sure you have enough depth to mount the Venetian Blind inside the window frame area.50mm should be fine; any less will result in the blind protruding out of the recess. If you have less than 50mm it may be worth considering installing your blind outside the window recess as a face fit.1) Measure the width of the recess from wall to wall at the top. This is where the brackets will be fitted.Be sure to measure across 3 areas of the width to ensure the area is the same width (or very similar) and the walls do not have bulges that will affect the operation of the blind.2) Note down the shortest measurement.3) Take off 10mm each side - this will give you some flexibility in case of any variants in your walls and will ensure your blind doesn't get damaged when operated. If you want to cover the total window area we suggest you fit your blind to the window face.4) Measure the drop by taking the measurement from the top of the recess to the bottom.5) Note down the measurement. For a face measurement..1) Measure the exact width of where you'd like your blind to be.As a guide, add an overlap from the window frame of between 50mm and 100mm, this will help reduce the gap at the side of the blind, providing better light control and more privacy.2) Note down the measurement.3) Measure the drop from the top of where you want your blind positioned to the bottom.4) Note down the measurement. And remember.• Ensure that on all recess width measurements that you have deducted 10mm from each side.• Measure at least twice to make sure there are no errors.• Note the side you wish the controls to be so that they are easily accessed.• To be sure of a great fit it is important that when measuring you account for any obstructions like window handles.• For full-length windows we recommend that you measure to approx 20mm off the floor. This will give enough clearance and allow the base rail to move freely.• For face fit installations remember to raise the blind by 250mm above the frame to allow the Venetian Blind mechanism to clear as much glass as possible when raised. This will allow more light into the room and is important when blinds are on doors, to allow for clearance.Other installation considerations.Shallow sill depth (recess fitting)..Around 50mm minimum sill depth is required to fasten all brackets as the minimum depth necessary for a flush mount (where the product does not protrude into the room). If your sill depth does not cover this you should probably consider a face fit installation.Corner windows..When two Venetian Blinds meet in a corner or in a corner where there is only glass, there can be a privacy problem. That's due to a gap where the products fit together. In order to minimize the problem, consider making one product bypass the other, then specify the other product to fit flush into the first. It is important to consider the side your controls are on when specifying Venetian Blinds for corner windows.Make sure you do not block the control mechanism with the overlap.French doors and sliding doors..Venetian Blinds are not the best solution for installation over French Doors and Sliding Doors. When raised Venetian Blinds leave a stack of slats which fall down between 50 and 250mm depending on the length of the blind. If you want to keep the full door area cleared when the blind is raised then the blind needs to be specified wider and taller. You will need a minimum of 50mm (width) x 250mm (drop) additional space per Venetian Blind for the mounting brackets at the top. This higher and wider measurement means that when the Venetian Blind is raised it blocks less of your view and space to move in and out of the door.We recommend you consider Roller Blinds for installation over French or Sliding Doors.Roller Blinds have less depth when raised than Venetian Blinds. However this is your choice, by no means does this mean you cannot install Venetian Blinds. For the width you also should add at least 25mm on both sides of the glass (50mm in total). However door handles may constrain the width you'd prefer.Ideally the Venetian Blind should fall just inside the door handle. All Venetian Blinds can be specified to mount either within the doorframe (RECESS) or over it on the wall (FACE).When deciding this ensure you measure to see if the handle is an obstruction.Venetian Blinds can be installed on either a wood or metal doors. For metal doors, you'll need "metal screws" designed for attaching to metal doors.Venetian Blinds - How to Install.Introduction.Venetian Blinds are easy to fit and we are confident it won't take up too much of your time.Be sure to read all of the instructions below. You'll need..1) Power drill 2) Drill Bit 3) Phillips Screwdriver (The one with the crossed head) 4) Flat head Screwdriver 5) Box of Screws 6) A pencil. How to fix your brackets into.Concrete, Brick or Plaster..If you're drilling into concrete, brick or plaster you should use a 5.0 mm diameter masonry drill bit.You will also require wall plugs and 1 inch phillips head screws (8 gauge).Wood or Steel..If you're drilling into wood or steel you should use a 3mm diameter high-speed steel drill bit.Often in wood you can secure the screws into the wood without any need to pre-drill.Tiles..If you're drilling into tiles then cover your drilling point with masking tape. This will prevent the drill from slipping.Installation guide for Venetian blinds.1) Gather your tools and unpack your blind.2) Locate the installation brackets which are supplied as a pair.• Have a look at your blind and see which side you ordered the control to be on.• It is very important that the brackets are mounted so that the blind is level when installed.• Decide where you want the blind to be positioned. The brackets can be placed in 3 different ways..Inside the frame (recess fit) mounted to the side of the window recess.Inside the frame (recess fit) mounted to the top (ceiling) of the window recess.Venetian Blinds can also be fitted outside the window frame (face fit).3) Mark out your drill holes with a pencil using the blind brackets provided as templates for holes.Ensure that the brackets are perfectly level, so that the blind rolls up and down straight.4) Drill your holes and then screw the brackets into place.5) Simply clip the blind into place by sliding the Venetian Blind into the brackets and then close the clip to hold the blind in place.6) Attach the valance clip and then slide the valance into place.7) Some Venetian Blinds are supplied with hold down brackets.Simply fix the hold down bracket to the base of the window recess or to the face of the wall outside the window recess. The base bar of the Venetian Blind will clip into the bottom of the brackets.Shortening the length of an Venetian Blind.8) Hang the blind in a fully open position (full length from top to bottom) then mark the desired length.9) Remove the bottom rail buttons and using scissors cut of the knots from the lift cords.10) Pull the lift cord from the bottom rail and slide out the bottom rail and the unwanted blind slats.11) Replace the bottom rail beneath the bottom slat and cut off the excess braided ladder string.N.B.Be sure you don't cut off the lift cord.12) Now re-thread the lift cords through the bottom rail and tie in a knot.Twist the braided ladder string ends together and insert into the bottom rail.Replace the bottom rail buttons.Venetian Blinds - How to Maintain.Cleaning.Cleaning the blind only requires a damp cloth.Make sure not to rub the blind too hard when cleaning as you may damage the slat by kinking or bending the blind slat.Removing the blinds. If you would like to take your blind down, simply unclip the brackets and release the whole blind.Make sure you have hold of the blind securely so it does not drop down -ideally have someone to help you do this.Blind damage. If your blind gets damaged many of the component parts can be replaced inexpensively.Common replacement parts include the bottom rail and chain. The bottom rail might need some more intricate work to replace so we recommend you send it back to your supplier for the rework.Troubleshooting / Common Problems. The blind slats will not lower. When you initially attempt to lower the slats the cord lock may not release causing the slats to not lower.Firstly hold the lift cords level with the headrail and pull. This should release the cord lock.If this does not fix the problem, take the blind out of the window.Locate the cord lock mechanism in the headrail where the cords run through. You will see a pin that should slide out and release the cords; in this instance it will be tight to the cords restricting their movement.Using a flat heads screwdriver carefully push the pin to disengage the cords ensuring you don't touch the cords and damage them. When the pin releases the slats will lower so be sure that nothing is in the way when the slats release and people are clear of the area as they may be injured. The blind hands unevenly.Raise the blind and then extend the blind completely.Repeat this operation slowly several times until blind hangs correctly. You can also manually adjust the way the blind sits, however be careful not to damage the blind when doing so.Need to replace slats.Remove the ladder cap from the underside of the bottom rail. This will expose the ends of the cords, which you can then pull out slightly.Cut the cord just above the knot and then pull the cord up through the last damaged slat.Remove the slats and replace them with the new ones, making sure that you insert the slats so that the route holes are aligned with the existing slats. Then weave the cords through the route holes being certain to alternate the sides of the ladder rungs as you proceed down the blind.Reinsert the cords into the bottom rail and tie them off.Replace caps.We hope this guide tells you everything you will need to know to successfully measure, install and maintain your Venetian Blinds.

| 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Qualcraft 2430 Aluminum 3 Rung Long Body Ladder Jack (Tools & Home Improvement) It does what I wanted to do. It's well made. I can see now that I own it that nothing of this kind can have the strength and at the same time fit all ladders equally well. You should understand before you buy that the design is meant for ladders at a fairly sharp pitch - that is, the base of the ladder has to be reasonably close to the wall. Otherwise the horizontal bars that support the planking cannot be adjusted anywhere near level. That's fine, probably as it should be but if your ladder is a bit on the long side you can't compensate by moving the base of the ladder away from the wall. The only cheaper units I've seen only hook over two rungs and I don't think I'd feel safe with that. By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Qualcraft 2430 Aluminum 3 Rung Long Body Ladder Jack (Tools & Home Improvement) I have the same ladder jacks and the distance I place my ladder, from the wall of building, is the same as if I was climbing up the ladder. The horizontal bars are level for the plank. This is a great idea in place of expensive and bulky scaffolds. Be certain the planks, between the ladders, are thick enough (if using wooden planks). |

Chandeliers - How to Install
With modern day chandeliers very much budget friendly for every home, the only thing that can bother a potential chandelier buyer is installation. In this article, we would find out that installing chandeliers is not a complicated issue at all though it is highly recommended that this be done by an expert only. For installing the chandelier, you would be needing a step ladder, an expandable bracket, the chandelier (of course), metal outlet box, wire nuts, small wood strip, small bracket with holes, and a circuit tester. In addition to that, you will be requiring a drywall saw, power drill, flathead screwdriver, putty knife, wire strippers, pliers, adjustable wrench, drill bits, carpenter's pencil, and a Phillips screwdriver. Now you will be required to select an outlet box used for ceiling fans and turning off the main power switch of your home.Do this in the daytime else you will need some candles.Thereafter, draw a circle using the carpenter's pencil to ascertain the location for installing the chandeliers. Then cut the circle with a drywall saw and install an electrical box by making use of expandable bracket and the other bracket. Now connect the wires. The last step is all about adjusting the level at which the chandeliers are expected to hang. One thing that you need to remember after installation of the chandeliers is that while performing any maintenance activity, you are expected to switch off the main power switch. That was all you needed to install the beautiful chandeliers at your home.

Simple Steps to Install Your LCD Televisions
LCD televisions are one of the hottest items on the market today, once you see one you will know why! They are great, but let's get on with the instructions to mount these fantastic appliances.Sooner or later you are going to have to know how to do this, it is only a matter of time before you have one, and everyone is getting them. This is a two person job, so find an assistant and get ready to do a super job!You are going to need a few tools, ladder and a level.A power drill is required.Make sure the brackets you are going use will fit the LCD TV.Some older models may not fit a newer bracket, so it would not be safe to mount the LCD television unless you can change out the bracket on the back of the television so that it is ready for wall mounting with the new bracket you will place in the wall.If the LCD television is purchased with the mounting unit, carefully read their instructions, and then get the stud finder out.You want your bracket seated into a solid piece of wood, not dry wall or fiber board. If you are a renter or leaser you need to check with the owner of the dwelling and get their permission to drill in the walls. You will find threaded screw inserts in the back on corners and sides. The bracket and the mounting bracket on the television are seated together while bolts with nuts and washers are screwed together to keep the LCD television secure to the wall. There are models that come with the ability to tilt the television up and down and some wall mounts will slide out to move the television from side to side. The LCD televisions come with devices such as a cable box, DVD player and Video game controls, so your televisions will need a reliable power source and all cords need to be plugged into a surge protector, just to be safe.It may be prudent to install a separate power outlet for your LCD televisions in order to lessen the possibility of an electrical surge when there are fluctuations in the power input.Mounting close to a fireplace is not a good idea. The LCD televisions computer components like it cool.Raising the temperature above 32 degree centigrade around the television can damage these components, so be mindful of where you place the television in the room.A cooler area is perfect.Attach cables and wires where they are appropriate.Calibrate the LCD televisions picture quality and enjoy your television.
