Gravity Conveyors and Safety Procedures
As with anything in a workplace, a conveyor needs to be used in a safe manner at all times. This must be done to keep the people who are using it from being hurt, and it must also be done so that none of the parts are damaged when they are pulled from their storage spaces.Below are a few safety tips that should be considered in this regard. When they are, workplace accidents will be cut back and both time and money will be saved. To start with, conveyors that end at assembly workstations should always have a backstop so that the things that are placed on the rollers do not simply continue sliding onto the various workstations. The worker who is at that station may not be paying attention because he or she is distracted.Perhaps they will be on a computer. If they do not see the parts coming, they could be struck by them. The parts could also fall off the end.A backstop can easily prevent both of these problems.Next, the owner of the warehouse should make sure that the workers know that they should never climb on the roller conveyors under any circumstances. They may be tempted to do this when they are trying to reach something that is stored up high and they do not want to go get a ladder. They may want to do it if they have dropped something and they need to reach far over the other side to get it.This is not advisable, since the rollers will turn under any pressure. They do not provide a stable foothold, and people who stand on them could fall off and be injured.Another thing to remember is that nothing that is considered a flammable canister should be placed on a gravity conveyor. It could collide with another metal part and be damaged. This can be rather dangerous. It could also fall off the conveyor if it has been assembled incorrectly so that the rails are not in place. It should be noted that conveyors and assembly workstations are not dangerous places to work.On the whole, they can make the workplace much safer, since they do not use power. This reduces a number of risks that exist in other places. These systems are convenient and durable, and people are rarely injured when they are using them for any task. However, the owner of the workplace needs to be responsible.Sometimes this means taking steps to prevent problems even though those issues would seldom present themselves.
